The department of fruit trees is trying to solve agricultural problems, in Israel and worldwide, in the field of fruit trees, by basic and applied research.
The studies in our department focus on finding applied solutions to mitigate the negative impact of climate change on a variety of fruit tree species, such as: reducing the cold requirements of deciduous fruit trees, increasing yield and fruit quality under spring and summer heat waves.
In addition, many studies deal with the introduction of precision agriculture technologies and the integration of AI in the fruit tree agricultural. The department deals with the improvement of table grapes, citrus, avocado, almond, olive, lychee, apple and mango.
In addition, the department’s research tries to find applied, agrotechnical solutions to improve the agricultural product of fruit trees in Israel, mainly under environmental constraints or pests and giving an advantage to Israeli products in competitive markets abroad.
The main research areas of the fruit tree department: the effect of a/biotic stresses on fruit trees, breeding program to develop new and excellent fruit tree cultivars, with high yield and quality, fruit tree fertility, reduction of the negative effect of alternate bearing in fruit trees and irrigation and fertilization of fruit trees.
