Description:
We have open positions for PhD research in climate – vegetation interaction.
Example of possible research projects include
(a) Studying the effects of extreme weather events on crops,
(b) Studying the complex interactions between deserts and climate and in particular, how trees and vegetation in general affect climate,
(c) Studying the interactions between vegetation and clouds and if / how vegetation re-starts a cycle of cloud formation or in contrast, lack or vegetation enhances deserts.
Qualification/experience:
The ideal candidate should have several of the following requirements:
(a) A solid scientific / computer science background / with experience in Big Data, or physics.
(b) Experience in running general circulation models (GCM) such as one or more of WRF/ ECHAM-JSBACH / ECHAM-JSBACH / MITgcm, LPJmL, CLM / dynamic vegetation models (DVMs) and a capability of working in a Linux and HPC environment.
(c). Experience with analysis of large and complex datasets to extract new insights from several large datasets.
(d) Experience and background in Machine Learning and/or Network Science.
(e) Experience and / or interest in climate research,
(f) The desire to present the research results in international conferences and summarize them in journal publications.
Salary and conditions:
The position is offered for 4 years. The estimated annual salary will be 96K-110K NIS (about 30K$). Source of funds: both from ARO & BIU.
