Acetophenone is a plant-derived compound valued for its potent insect-repellent activity and wide industrial use, but its biosynthetic pathway remains largely unresolved. This project will identify the genes and enzymes involved in acetophenone formation in Styrax officinalis and reconstruct the pathway in tobacco and petunia, engineering plants as sustainable, natural sources of the compound.
Requirements:
M.Sc. in Plant Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field. Excellent written and spoken English communication skills. Strong ability to write, communicate, and present scientific research. Self-motivated, curious, adaptable, and eager to learn.
