My research activities comprise basic research from which practical knowledge can be derived and applied and include the main following topics:
- The interaction between nutrition and reproduction in dairy cows, with a strong emphasis on the transition period nutrition and physiology.
- Feeding dairy cows with unique fatty acids such as conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) and their effects on the regulation of fat synthesis in the mammary gland.
- The roles of dietary omega-3 fatty acids in performance, milk fat composition, reproduction, and heath in dairy cattle.
- The effects of omega-3 fatty acids from flaxseed or fish oil on fatty acid composition and the characteristics of fresh and frozen-thawed bull semen.
- The long-term effects of nutrition of pre-weaning replacement heifers.
- Nutritional and management aspects of high-yielding dairy cows during the hot season.
- The physiology of the repeat breeder cow syndrome.
- The molecular mechanism underlying the insulin resistance phenomenon in transition dairy cows.
- Nutritional strategies to reduce the prevalence of pregnancy toxemia in prolific ewes.
