Dr. Josef Tanny is a retired senior researcher at the Institute of Soil, Water and Environmental Sciences, Agricultural Research Organization, Volcani Institute, Israel. Dr. Tanny earned his three academic degrees, B. Sc., M. Sc., and Ph. D., in mechanical engineering from Tel-Aviv University, specializing in fluid mechanics and heat transfer.
His primary fields of research are agricultural meteorology and environmental physics. Dr. Tanny has specialized in measuring and modeling the evapotranspiration of crops in protected environments and open fields and the evaporation from water bodies, using advanced micro-meteorological methods and various models. Dr. Tanny’s research focuses on microclimate, crop water use, and irrigation in protected cultivation systems like screenhouses and greenhouses. Dr. Tanny has published numerous peer-reviewed papers in leading international scientific journals in these research fields.
