The ‘Smadi’ and ‘Smadi-Pro’ varieties exhibit high tolerance to Fusarium, demonstrated in both controlled inoculation assays (pot trials) and in fields with a history of the disease. ‘Smadi’ is characterized by vigorous growth, making it ideal as a fast-growing winter crop. Although these varieties tend to flower early (bolt), particularly in the summer, the specific agrotechnical irrigation protocol we developed allows for maximal yields comparable to other commercial varieties susceptible to Fusarium. Furthermore, the rapid growth rate contributes to water savings, as the crop reaches harvest maturity in fewer growing days.
