Wheat variety has been dedicated in memory of Yaacobi Yinon

A wheat variety developed by Dr. Roi Ben David and Kamal Nashef from the Volcani Institute has been dedicated in memory of Yaacobi Yinon, an agronomist specializing in field crops and a farming advisor in the Negev.

"והחיטה צומחת שוב"

Yaacobi Yinon and his wife, Bilha, were tragically murdered in their home in Moshav Netiv HaAsara on October 7th.

The “Yaacobi” is a high-yielding, high-grain quality bread wheat variety that is highly adaptive to the Negev growing conditions. “Yaacobi” has excelled in the Israeli national varieties trails exhibiting stable grain yield and high grain quality across different environmental conditions.

Yaacobi Yinon was a highly knowledgeable agronomy expert who nurtured a new generation of farmers and advisors. He participated in numerous studies with researchers from the Volcani Institute and the Faculty of Agriculture. In recent years, he served as the advisor of the Central Farm of the Volcani Institute, Rishon LeZion.

May Yaacobi and Bilha Yinon rest in peace.
