Vered Irihimovitch Laboratory seeks a Post Doc for a Gibberellin Treatments as a Strategy to Enhance Reproductive Resilience and Yield Stability in ‘Hass’ Avocado Orchards under Heat Stress Conditions🥑

utstanding PhD/Postdoctoral Researcher – Avocado Flowering and Yield Stability We are seeking an outstanding and curious PhD graduate or postdoctoral researcher to join a research project investigating the hormonal, physiological, and molecular mechanisms regulating flowering, fruit set, and yield stability in ‘Hass’ avocado under heat stress conditions.

The research will examine the effects of GA₃ (gibberellic acid) on leaf senescence, photosynthesis, flowering, fruit set, and fruitlet abscission in trees exhibiting alternate bearing. The project will integrate physiological, molecular, hormonal, and metabolomic analyses, together with field experiments conducted in commercial avocado orchards. Supervision: Dr. Vered Irihimovitch, Department of Fruit Tree Sciences, Volcani Institute, in collaboration with Dr. Ran Erel, Department of Soil Chemistry, Plant Nutrition and Microbiology, Gilat Research Center.

Requirements MSc or PhD in Plant Sciences, Biology, Plant Physiology, Molecular Biology, or a related field. Experience in independent research and data analysis. Significant preference will be given to candidates with experience and/or knowledge in plant flowering regulation and RNA-seq data analysis.

Interest in research integrating molecular biology, plant physiology, and agronomy. Previous experience with avocado is not required. Location: Volcani Center, Israel Duration: Two years, with an option for extension Expected start date: September 2026 To apply: Please send your CV to Dr. Vered Irihimovitch at veredi@agri.gov.il.

The student will gain advanced experience in plant physiology, molecular biology, RNA-seq analysis, plant hormones, and metabolomics, along with hands-on experience using advanced equipment for measuring photosynthesis, SPAD, and other technologies. The research combines laboratory, greenhouse, and commercial orchard work, and includes experimental design, data analysis, and independent research.
