The Biological Control Laboratory seeks a a Master’s student for a biological control of the tomato leafminer in protected cultivation systems 馃崊

The study will evaluate the efficacy of the predatory bug (Nesidiocoris tenuis), imported from Spain, for controlling Tuta absoluta under protected cultivation conditions. In parallel, methods will be developed to conserve its population and enhance its predatory activity within an integrated biological control framework. In addition, field surveys will be conducted to identify new parasitoid wasps, and their potential effectiveness against the pest will be assessed. The goal of the study is to develop an effective and stable biological control strategy that integrates multiple natural enemies.
Requirements: M.Sc. student in entomology, plant protection, or a related field. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with responsibility and precision in conducting experiments. The position includes planning and conducting laboratory and field experiments (net-houses/greenhouses), data collection and analysis, and rearing insects and natural enemies. An advantage for prior experience working with insects, biological control, or IPM approaches, as well as statistical analysis skills and scientific writing in English. Willingness to work under field conditions and flexible hours according to experimental needs.

The student will specialize in biological control and integrated pest management (IPM), including work with natural enemies of agricultural pests. In addition, they will gain experience in the ecology and behavior of pests and their natural enemies, planning and conducting laboratory and field experiments, insect rearing, and methods for data collection and analysis.
