The Biological Control Laboratory is looking for a Master’s student for Biological control of aphids using predatory lady beetles and lacewings 馃悶

The research focuses on developing biological control of aphids in sweet pepper using the Asian lady beetle (Harmonia axyridis) and the green lacewing (Chrysoperla carnea), as an alternative or complement to the parasitoid Aphidius colemani. It evaluates the effectiveness of these natural enemies under net-house conditions and different temperature regimes, aiming to improve aphid control in pepper crops in Israel. The laboratory specializes in biological control, IPM, and the ecology and behavior of pests and their natural enemies.

Requirements:

M.Sc. student in entomology, plant protection, or a related field. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with responsibility and precision in conducting experiments. The role includes planning and carrying out laboratory and field experiments (net-houses/greenhouses), data collection and analysis, and rearing insects and natural enemies. An advantage for prior experience working with insects, biological control, or IPM methods, as well as statistical analysis skills and scientific writing in English. Willingness to work under field conditions and flexible hours according to experimental needs.

The student will specialize in biological control and integrated pest management (IPM), including work with natural enemies of agricultural pests. In addition, they will gain experience in the ecology and behavior of pests and their natural enemies, planning and conducting laboratory and field experiments, insect rearing, and methods for data collection and analysis. Training will also be provided in statistical analysis and scientific writing.
