Ciliate protozoa in ruminants are a major yet understudied component of the rumen microbiome, with central roles in methane emissions and rumen ecosystem function. Our lab focuses on the role of this central component of the rumen, with emphasis on their various interactions with bacteria and archaea, and their global impact on ruminant physiology.
