Research Interests / Job description
Population genetics

Research interests

Environmental influences on changes of genetic diversity and structure to reveal adaptive genetic variation.  Genotype x environment interaction.

Quantification of selection in natural forest populations.

Natural hybridizations between species in forest populations.

Gene flow among forest tree populations.

Monitoring the changes in genetic diversity for maintaining healthy populations. Drought tolerance.

Plant molecular systematics and phylogeny.

Acacia treeAnalysis of genetic diversity and population differentiation among populations of three different Israeli species of Acacia: A. raddiana, A. negevensis (A. pachyceras (Schwartz), A. tortilis.
Eucalytus treeAssessment of genetic structure among Eucalyptus camaldulensis trees planted in Israel and comparison of this genetic variation in Israel vs. Australian populations to allow reconstructing history of this species distribution in our region.
Pine treesInvestigation of genetic diversity and genetic structure of Aleppo pine forests growing in different environmental conditions.  We use DNA markers to detect the genetic structure and degree of relatedness within and among different stands.  Comparison of the genetic structure of populations of different ages will permit us to detect changes in gene frequencies due to deficit of water, high temperature and other factors. Study of chloroplast DNA markers will help us to identify regions of local adaptation.
