Research Interests / Job description
Insect – microbe systems of agricultural importance
fruit flies (Tephritidae, Drosophilidae)
Ecophysiology
Insect-plant interactions
Abiotic stress resistance
Insecticide resistance

We study Insect – microbe systems of agricultural importance, with particular interest in fruit flies (Tephritidae and Drosophilidae). Within this frame, we examine how microbes contribute to insect phenotypes and behavior which are relevant to agroecosystems: host plant utilization, resistance to abiotic stress and insecticides, and attraction. Our work combines insect bioassays with NGS community sequencing, molecular and classic microbiology and biochemical analyses. We are currently studying these systems:

1. Drosophilid flies, gut microbiome and sour rot disease in grapes

2. Olive fly - bacteria - host fruit interactions

3. Abiotic stress resistance in fruit flies
