המחקרים של היחידה מתמקדים בהשקיה בתנאי הנגב.  לימוד המערכת מים-קרקע-צמח-אטמוספרה מובילה לשיפור יעילות השימוש במים ולרווחיות גבוהה יותר בחקלאות.  הלימוד נעשה תוך דגש על שמירה של משאבי הטבע באזורינו.
